EDBT 2017 Call for Industrial and Application Papers

The International Conference on Extending Database Technology is a leading international forum for database researchers, practitioners, developers, and users to discuss cutting-edge ideas, and to exchange techniques, tools, and experiences related to data management. Data management is an essential enabling technology for scientific, engineering, business, and social communities. Data management technology is driven by the requirements of applications across many scientific and business communities, and runs on diverse technical platforms associated with the web, enterprises, clouds and mobile devices. The database community has a continuing tradition of contributing with models, algorithms and architectures, to the set of tools and applications enabling day-to-day functioning of our societies. Faced with the broad challenges of today's applications, data management technology constantly broadens its reach, exploiting new hardware and software to achieve innovative results.

EDBT 2017 invites industrial and application papers that describe important industrial and application achievements. We encourage submissions related to all aspects of data management, and particularly encourage work on applying recent research advances to real-world problems. New applications, challenging use cases, and description as well as analysis of applied technology are highly welcome.

Topics of interest

We welcome papers on topics including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Analytics
  • Appliances
  • Availability, Reliability, and Scalability
  • Big (Linked) Data
  • Cloud Computing
  • Context-Aware Computing
  • Data Reservoir
  • Interoperability
  • Mobile Data Management
  • New Hardware
  • Secure Data Management
  • Self-Managing Systems
  • Semantic Web
  • Sensor Data Management
  • Social Networking
  • Software as a Service
  • Web Data Management

Types of Papers

The following two types of papers are considered:

  • Industrial papers: papers that describe technical advances that address industrially relevant problems, and that have been carried out in a commercial setting that is described in the paper.
  • Application papers: papers that describe applications or use cases that stretch or present challenges to established data management tools or techniques.

Submissions to this track can be in the form of extended abstracts (2 pages), short papers (6 pages) or full papers (12 pages), and will be selected for inclusion in the program on the basis of their contribution, originality, and significance. Please make it explicit in the submission if the paper is to be reviewed as an industrial or application paper.

Important Dates

  • Paper submission deadline: October 10, 2016, 11:59pm Hawaii Time
  • Notification: December 10, 2016
  • Camera-ready deadline: January 15, 2017, 11:59pm Hawaii Time

Duplicate Submissions

A paper submitted to EDBT must be original work and cannot be under review for any other publishing forum or presentation venue (including conferences, workshops, and journals) during the time it is being considered for EDBT. Furthermore, after you submit to EDBT, you must await our response and only resubmit elsewhere if your paper is rejected (or withdrawn at your request) from EDBT. Violation of this policy will result in a straight reject and a ban from submitting to EDBT for one year due to professional misconduct. This restriction applies to identical submissions as well as to submissions with a substantial overlap in scientific content and results.

Submission Guidelines

All aspects of the submission and notification process will be handled electronically. All papers should be submitted in electronic format. The submission web site is:
Please observe the submission dates. No late papers will be accepted. EDBT 2017 submissions are reviewed following a single blind review process, meaning, you do not need to hide authors’ names and affiliations.

Submission Format Instructions

Papers must be formatted according to the conference camera-ready format using the ACM proceedings double-column format. They must be submitted as PDF documents. Full papers should not exceed 12 pages, short papers should not exceed 6 pages, and extended abstracts are 2 pages long. Papers should be marked for the review process as industrial or application paper. Templates to prepare your submission can be found on the ACM SIG Proceedings templates website. It is not permissible to change the template's font size, margins, inter-column spacing, or line spacing. Templates are available in Word and LaTeX (version 2e). For the LaTeX formats, you may use either the standard style or the SIG-alternate style.

The full text of the papers will appear in Open Access, on the OpenProceedings platform ( based at University of Konstanz. This guarantees that the proceedings will be available online and free of charge, while the authors retain the copyrights over their work.
